Mountain West Bowl Participant Payouts: Since 1999

(Sorted by average amount brought in by a school, per season)

(Individual bowl game amounts were compiled using figures provided by collegefootballpoll.com).

Beginning with the 2009-2010 season, Teams outside of the AQ conferences receive $6 million if they automatically qualify for the BCS. A second teams that qualifies from a non-AQ conference receives a reduced amount.

While the landscape of the Mountain West hasn’t changed all that much, compared with Conference USA, the conference has become the premier conference of mid-major schools. The Mountain West has been the home to Boise State (2011-2012), Brigham Young (1998-2011), San Diego State (1998-2012), TCU (2005-2012), and Utah (1998-2011).

Fresno State, Nevada, and Hawaii join the conference this season. Hawaii has appeared in a BCS bowl, the Sugar Bowl, in 2008, losing to Georgia 41-10. Nevada has had success under longtime coach, Chris Ault, appearing in seven straight bowl games.

With the addition of the Bulldogs, Wolfpack, and Warriors, each team in the Mountain West will play an eight game conference schedule, but will not play one conference member. The following pairs will not meet in the 2012 season:

Air Force-Boise State

Colorado State-Nevada

Fresno State-UNLV

Hawaii-Wyoming

New Mexico-San Diego State
