This coming week for Gamecock country is the beginning of the new season, and of new chances for Gamecock fans everywhere to help their team through to another good year. The first game for the South Carolina Gamecocks is on Thursday, August 30th at 7 pm EST, and fans will be glued to their TVs as the team goes head-to-head with Vanderbilt.
This week’s game will be played in Nashville, Tennessee. The Gamecocks will not have home field advantage until the next week against East Carolina. No matter what, though, the Gamecocks will draw from their fans and their practice to make this what is sure to be an exciting game.
Coach Spurrier talked with reporters today, and assured all the waiting fans that the players are ready and mostly healthy. Coach Spurrier did mention a few minor injuries that have occurred during practice. Players Akeem Auguste and Brandon Wilds will be sitting on the sideline for this game. Auguste if suffering from a hurt groin, and Wilds may be out for the next two weeks with the ankle injury he received during practice. Fans will be looking forward to seeing him fully recovered and out there soon.
There are also several changes for the team this year. Sheldon Royster transferred, while eight new walk-ons have helped to fill out the roster. Another change came with the player numbers. Ahmad Christian – 4, Patrick Fish – 13, Kyle Fleetwood – 19, Landon Ard – 19, Blair Lowery – 29 and Adam Yates – 52, will be sporting their new numbers in this week’s game.
All the players are gearing up for the game, and so are the fans. When you cannot find anyone on Thursday, just look at the local sports bars and in front of TVs. There will be plenty of people there, cheering the team onto victory and the start to a great season.
