Picks for Monday, March 12, 2012 (2-1) (8-7 overall thru Friday picks)
Bucks -3 (NBA)
The Bucks have been extra scrappy lately. Beating the Knicks amidst the Linsanity wave was clearly a marquee victory for the struggling franchise (17-24). The Nets have a surprisingly TERRIBLE record at home vs their performance away from Jersey (4-14 H, 10-14 Away). What this game comes down to is that both teams are pretty similar in talent, but the Bucks are far more inspired right now, and I feel that will be the difference that makes the difference.
Canadiens/Sabres O 5 (NHL)
There are some games on the books for NHL that are listed at 5 that I frankly should be listed at 5.5. This is a bargain deal. The Sabres (32-29-8) typically don’t score very much, but they have managed 3 in all four contests against Montreal this season. 60% of the work is done. The Canadiens avg 2.6/game, which is middle of the road for the NHL, but is HIGHER than the Sabres average. This game could end up a push (3-2) sabres foro instance, but my bet places this game at or over the total of 5, which it being very hard to justify below that. Over 5 is the bet.
Oilers +120 (NHL)
The Sharks have been on a tumultuous landslide in the last month, and the Oilers have already contributed to that, besting the Sharks 3-2 this past Tuesday. I think the Oilers can hold them off again, especially at home. Oilers for the win.
Picks for Friday, March 9, 2012 (1-2) (6-6 overall thru Thursday picks)
1. Kentucky -17 (NCAAB)
Lsu, a subpar team for the schedule Kentucky has had to face, is playing against a 16-0 sec powerhouse, with an enormous average win margin of almost 19 points. Last time Kentucky met with LSU, away from home no less, they clobbered the Tigers by 24. Small chance Kentucky just plays it safe and goes for the short win here, but barring that, we are looking at a modern day slaughterhouse.
2. Ohio State -7.5 (NCAAB)
Last match-up, Ohio won by 3. This was an uncanny match for both teams. Both teams shot over .500 behind the arc as well as overall field goals, and the game was just an unchallenged scoring fest. Ohio has a bit more to play for here, even though Purdue wants to play the underdog card. I’m going with the more talented team, and 8 points is not a large margin.
3. Nets -1.5 (NBA)
This is just a pretty cheap line on a matchup of two teams that are truly faltering this year. The Bobcats just can’t get it together generally (except when I bet the Magic.) 1.5 is basically a pickem matchup, and really? Betting the Nets for the win I don’t really need many excuses.
Picks for Thursday, March 8, 2012 (2-1) (5-4 overall thru Wednesday picks)
Indiana -11.5 (NCAAB)
Indiana is 18-1 at home. Penn State is 1-11 on the road. Last home game for Indiana against Penn St., they took it by 19. Indiana.
Bulls -6 (NBA)
The Bulls are 25-16 ats this season, 7-3 in their last ten. They went away from home court and beat the Magic by 14. Meanwhile, the Magic (25-15, 21-19 ats) just blew a 20 point lead against the Bobcats to lose by 16. AT HOME. The bulls are simply more consistent than the Magic, and the depth within the team makes the Bulls one of my favorite picks this season.
Panthers/Flyers 0 5.5 (NHL)
Both of these teams average a score over 5.5 based off of their scored/allowed numbers (Panthers 5.5, Flyers 6.2/game.) Obviously the goal-tending isn’t the sharpest in the league. I think that the Flyers are a better team, but they lost both games against the Panthers this season and I don’t want to bet on a 0-2 actuality. Over for the win.
