Buckeyes vs Florida – January 2, 2012

It was a big day for the Big Ten. We had Michigan State vs Georgia in the Outback Bowl, Nebraska vs South Carolina in Capital One Bowl and The Ohio State vs Florida in the Gator Bowl. The Big Ten had one out three wins. The one win was Michigan State beating Georgia in three overtimes.
The Buckeyes played in the Gator Bowl and were a two point underdog to the Gators. This was coach Luke Fickell’s last game as head coach for the Buckeyes since Urban Meyer would be taking over the program. It was a slow start for both teams. The Gators did strike first blood. The Buckeyes were able to rally back and tie the game up at 7-7. During the second quarter Florida scored their only offenese touchdown the game. A replay showed the ball did touch the ground and was not a touchdown; however, officials did not review the play and the score was given to the Gators. This would have changed the momentum of the game and possibly forced an overtime.  The Gators scored from the help of two special teams plays. There was a 99 yard kick off return from Debose and another was a blocked punt from Stewart. The Silver Bullets did stand their ground pretty well. The offense just could not get going at all. Buckeye QB Braxton Miller went 18-23 for a 162 yards passing. the Buckeyes were able to get a drive going late 4th quarter and Miller hit Jordan Hall for an 11 yard TD pass with 57 seconds to go in the game. The Buckeyes did line up for an onside kick but failed to recover it. The final score was 24-17 Florida.
The Buckeyes record for the 2011 season was 6-7. It was not a great year for the Buckeyes but yet it was not the worst that could happen either. The last two losses that hurt the worst were when we lost to Michigan and now to Florida. There was was just no heart in the bowl game for the Buckeyes this time. Now there will be no Big Ten title game next year or any bowl games due to the one year ban (due to NCAA violations). The future is very bright for The Ohio State Buckeyes. With Urban Meyer now the head coach, there is a light in the Horseshoe. A light that has not come out of the dark Horseshoe for the entire year. I think Meyer has know lighten our Darkest hour! GO BUCKS!
