Ohio State is currently the only 9-0 team in the country. They are also the only undefeated team that doesn’t have Championship aspirations. Because of sanctions, one of Ohio State’s best seasons could be for nothing more than reputation.
Braxton Miller and the Buckeyes started slow, but eventually pulled away from the Nittany Lions last Saturday, as they continue to be one of the top rushing teams in the country. After the win, Ohio State jumped up to #6 in the AP Poll, and if the team does go undefeated, they will have a chance to be named the AP National Champions—although very unlikely.
The Buckeyes welcome a struggling Illinois team to Columbus this Saturday, in hopes of improving to 10-0. Illinois has not been competitive in any of its four Big Ten games thus far this season, and their only two wins come against Western Michigan and Charleston Southern.
This game should be a big stat booster for Braxton Miller, and he needs it if he wants to make a legitimate run at the Heisman Trophy. Coming into the game, Braxton will likely be on everyone’s radar, as he hopes to put up the big numbers one would expect of a Heisman candidate.
I expect this game to be a blowout from start to finish, as Illinois cannot compete with the Buckeye talent on either side of the football. I expect Ohio State to win this game 45-10, dominating all aspects of the game, as they head into their bye week. Ohio State will have its two biggest tests of the season following the bye, as they travel to Madison before taking on their arch-rivals—the Michigan Wolverines.
